Youth Ministry Leadership Team

Many youth ministers have learned over the years that their youth ministry is larger than they are. They also have learned that their youth ministry is not as successful if they try the “Lone Ranger” approach. So, what’s the answer to helping their youth ministry become more successful? I believe that building a leadership team is a step in the right direction.

There are many ways to build a Leadership Team but the number one thing you are looking for is commitment. You need to find leaders who are trying with all their hearts to help get the teens in your ministry to Heaven. They will need to be committed to God, family, and ministry.

When you recruit, look for people who are faithful, available, and willing to learn. Being on a leadership team will require more than just teaching a Sunday school class or leading a Sunday night devotional. These people will need to be ready to step up to the plate and help take the ministry to a higher level.

The leadership team will need to be available. It is probable that meetings will need to be attended. It is also very possible that the team will need to be available to help with counseling teens or dealing with parents. The leadership team should be known as great role models for your group.

The last and maybe the most important area for your team is for them to be willing to learn. It may be necessary for you to have training seminars or to finance workshops for them to attend. No matter what you must supply them with the knowledge to help them minister.

Let your Leadership Team know that you are not asking them to do anything that you would not do yourself. Let them know by your actions that you are faithful, hardworking, committed, and constantly trying to learn so you can be a better youth minister for the glory of God.
