Learning from Your Peacher

By: Paul Evans

Listen carefully to your preacher this Sunday and take notes.
Not just on the message, but on the memorable aspects of
the message. Place a star beside the things that really jumped
out at you. Then ask yourself these three questions later in the day.

1. Why did that point impact me? Make it a personal evaluation.
What is the tone, the passion, or the content that drew you into the
message?

2. What universal principle was represented? Take it beyond your
personal scope and get into the minds of all the listeners. Is there
something about the point that connected with everyone? If so, then
it is universal and can be applied in a variety of settings.

3. How can I use a similar technique in my lessons? Think about
upcoming messages or classes and see if you can use the same
style (not same point) to make your lesson more impactful.
